What is menopause?

Menopause is the time when your menstrual cycle stops permanently, indicating the end of fertility.


The first symptoms appear amongst women towards 45-50 years of age.

Some symptoms can indicate to a woman that this next cycle is starting, such as mood swings (depression, anxiety, irritability), sleep disturbances, and trouble in concentration as well as physical symptoms (hot flashes, vaginal dryness, articulation pains) and a slower metabolism, even for women who did not previously suffer from weight gain!

What is happening in the body during menopause?

When the woman reaches this period, the body stops producing oestrogen but continues producing testosterone, which leads to the influx of fat around the abdomen as opposed to around the hips and/or thighs.

Hormonal changes also influence the feeling of fullness, and where fat settles in the body.

However, hormones are not the only factor that can affect a woman during this period – our lifestyle choices strongly affect symptoms such as weight gain, mood swings, fatigue and how sedentary we are.

What are some solutions to address the weight gain?

The first step, you must adapt your diet to your needs, keep an active lifestyle, and get enough sleep, manage the stress to avoid the envy to eat junk food.
